Windjammer center panel print with 2 magnetic tracks
film courtesy of John Mitchell

Windjammer, produced in Cinerama clone Cinemiracle offered too little too late to make the splash that its producers had hoped. Unlike Cinerama, which got a full reliability workout by running almost a year in a single theatre, Cinemiracle had to open in as many theatres as possible. Their installations were nowhere near as permanent as the Cinerama houses, which took long term leases. In order to insure against one potential problem, Cinemiracle bought a little insurance for their sound reproduction by placing a mono copy of the soundtrack on the center panel film. Two magnetic tracks were used merely to balance the film. The camera operator should be taken to task for putting the gorgeous blonde in the panel joint.
